It has been written by Diomedes Kovras, member of the board of directors of
''Papanikolis''.

The selection and presentation of the text on the school's website belongs to a student
of the third gymnasium.

The athletic club ''Papanikolis'' was created by people who had the passion of sports in them and who wanted to give a sports outlet to the local youth, at a time when there was nothing but the café and the hard work. They wanted to unite under a "flag" that would represent their village as a whole, beyond political controversies and fanaticisms… These were difficult times for Eressos, when Papanikolis was created in 1979! People were leaving the villages, the province was deserting… That's when our team was "born"!In a very important meeting at the town hall, the then mayor Christoforos Psomas and Michalis Karavasilis, decide that the great athletic time has come for Eressos! He would get a football team again… "Godfather" of Papanikolis was Christoforos Psomas, who, worshipping the sea himself, paid tribute to the bourlotieris of the revolution, giving his name to our team, something that was immediately accepted by the other participants in the meeting… The colors of the team, it was decided to be blue, which symbolizes the sea and the naval achievement of Papanikolis and red, which symbolized the flame of the torch of the fireman! So, some time later, elections were held, a board of directors emerged and the group was officially created, submitting its statute to the EPC of Lesvos, in an atmosphere of intense enthusiasm of the residents of Eressos. She lined up on the pitches proudly and ready for action during the 1980-1981 season.

The team, with the help of its own people, continued to stand proudly in the stadiums and keep the youth of Eressos on the field, in sports, in the magic recipe of teamwork, emulation, wrestling for the common cause… And all those people who supported him, on and off the pitch, every day that passed, surpassed themselves, fighting to keep the team alive… But the reverse course had already begun… Finally, one day, on a black day for Eressos, Papanikolis died out! About two years have passed since that black day when Papanikolis temporarily suspended his operation due to financial impasse… But as it seems, the burlotier, had put a lot of good quality tar and resin in his torch!… A little of it was still left on it… And so with the first sickly fiery breath that passed by him, the torch was lit again… And Papanikolis was born again!
The new effort, therefore, aims to bring all Eresians close to the team of their village!Unfortunately, you see, from Eressos, the… financial croissants to throw a lot of money at the team. But even if they are absent, we have our hearts! Many together, all together,we can not only keep Papanikolis alive forever, but also finally create asportsvenue,which is worthwhile in our Eressos!!!
